Hot-Dip Galvanized Conical Steel Street Light Poles for the Manas International Airport – Bishkek Highway Outdoor Lighting Project in Kyrgyzstan

Project Summary

This project involved the supply of modern hot-dip galvanized conical steel street light poles for the outdoor lighting upgrade of the highway connecting Manas International Airport with the city of Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan. A total of 756 street light poles were supplied for this key transport artery — one of the republic's main gateways, used daily by thousands of passengers, airport staff, residents and visitors. The poles were configured mainly as single- and double-arm conical poles for LED luminaires, designed for highway-grade lighting and finished with a corrosion-resistant hot-dip galvanized coating. The project was initiated and funded by OJSC "Airports of Kyrgyzstan" as part of its airport-infrastructure modernization strategy, in partnership with the Bishkek City Mayor's Office, which carried out installation. As the pole manufacturer, Yangzhou Xintong provided pole design, fabrication, galvanizing, quality inspection, export packaging and container loading.

Client Background & Project Requirements

The end user, OJSC "Airports of Kyrgyzstan", continues to invest in the infrastructure that provides comfortable and safe access to the country's main airport. The company launched a project to install outdoor lighting along the road linking Manas International Airport with Bishkek — a critical transport artery traveled every day by thousands of passengers, airport employees, residents and guests of Kyrgyzstan.

The project called for a large, uniform supply of modern light poles that could meet several demands:

Highway-grade safety lighting — the route is a primary gateway corridor, so the poles had to support even, glare-controlled LED illumination to improve road-traffic safety and night-time visibility for all road users.

Large, consistent batch — 756 poles were required with a uniform conical profile and finish along the full length of the highway, for a clean and professional appearance befitting the airport gateway.

Durability in a continental climate — Kyrgyzstan's continental climate brings hot summers, cold winters and wide temperature swings, demanding heavy-duty galvanized poles with verified structural and weld quality for decades of low-maintenance service.

Reliable export to Central Asia — long inland transport to landlocked Kyrgyzstan required carefully controlled packaging and scheduling to protect the poles and keep the installation program on track.

The poles were funded directly by OJSC "Airports of Kyrgyzstan", while installation of the structures and lighting equipment was carried out by the municipal services of the capital — making consistent quality and on-time supply essential to the joint program.

Our Solution

As an established custom manufacturer with a fully integrated steel-pole production base, Yangzhou Xintong supplied all 756 poles to a consistent, certified standard. The factory's strength underpins both the quality and the ability to deliver a large batch on schedule:

• 5,000 tons of raw material in stock for stable supply and short lead time

• Self-owned hot-dip galvanizing factory for full control of coating quality

• Automated spray coating line and a 12,000 KW high-power laser cutter

• CNC bending machines and 160 certified welders with 5+ years' experience

On this basis, our solution was:

Highway-grade conical poles: Supplied single- and double-arm conical steel poles sized for highway LED luminaires, delivering the even, glare-controlled illumination required for a primary airport corridor.

Consistent finish at scale: Standardized CNC forming and a controlled galvanizing line delivered a uniform conical profile and surface finish across all 756 poles — meeting the gateway's appearance requirement.

Heavy-duty corrosion protection: Applied hot-dip galvanizing with 80–100 µm zinc thickness (ASTM A123 / EN ISO 1461), ensuring a service life of over 25 years under the continental climate.

Structural reliability: Project-specific structural design for pole height, arm configuration and local wind/temperature load, with a robust flange and anchor-bolt connection.

Certified quality: Every pole passes documented zinc-thickness, steel-thickness and weld inspection (see Section 6) to internationally recognized standards.

Production Process & Quality Control Standards

Every pole follows a controlled, fully in-house production and inspection workflow: cutting → bending → welding → polishing → incising → hot-dip galvanization → spraying → quality checks → packing.

Quality is verified by the Xintong inspection team against internationally recognized standards:

Zinc Thickness Inspection — > 85 µm (coating thickness gauge), complying with ASTM A123 / EN ISO 1461

Steel Thickness Inspection — tolerance < 0.1 mm, complying with ASTM A36 / EN 10025

Magnetic & Ultrasonic Welding Inspection, complying with AWS D1.1 / EN 1090-2

Each batch ships with inspection records and structural documentation, ensuring the poles meet public-infrastructure quality requirements.

Packaging & Delivery

To guarantee the 756 poles arrive undamaged after the long inland transport to Kyrgyzstan:

Protective wrapping: Each pole is wrapped with protective material along its length, with extra protection at flange ends to prevent surface and coating damage.

Bundling & strapping: Poles are bundled by size and secured with steel strapping and wooden spacers to prevent shifting and abrasion in transit.

Container loading: Professionally loaded and braced into containers; smaller poles are nested inside larger ones to maximize space and stability, and accessories (flanges, anchor bolts, brackets) are crated and labeled per pole set.

Shipping mode: Multimodal sea-plus-land freight to landlocked Kyrgyzstan as negotiated, with full export documentation provided.

Project Results & Client Feedback

The full order of 756 galvanized steel street light poles was delivered to support the Manas Airport – Bishkek highway lighting program, with all galvanizing, steel and weld documentation meeting ASTM A123 / EN ISO 1461, ASTM A36 / EN 10025 and AWS D1.1 / EN 1090-2 requirements.

Once installed by the capital's municipal services, the poles deliver even, modern LED illumination along the airport gateway highway — improving road-traffic safety, enhancing night-time visibility and creating more comfortable conditions for all road users, with a clean, uniform pole line befitting the country's main airport corridor. The upgrade forms part of the airport operator's wider strategy to modernize the aviation sector and improve passenger service quality.
